parallel

Barefoot and holding logs in my backyard. I'm glad my neighbors don't speak English...I think this would be less entertaining for the if they did.
These are a few images taken with my Pentacon after shooting my last performance. The editing is slow going, but I'm feeling pretty good about it so far... I have a feeling that this work will somehow unfold itself in the weeks to come.

Fact

Street performers make me nauseous and uncomfortable.
 Not Okay.

While this fear of street performers may be an acquired phobia from my dad's strong (and hilarious) opposition to to mimes, and all things mime related, these so called 'entertainers' seriously make me cringe. I contemplate projectile vomiting when i come upon what appears to be a statue in the center of town, only to realize it's a person... performing. Why the hostility you ask? As a part of the Unwanted Companion series I've been working on, my own performance involves placing myself in as many tourist videos and pictures as possible... and quite frankly, these street performers are cramping my style. Of course this seems like a perfect opportunity to get in a plethora of snapshots and travel videos, but pix pix will tell you I physically need her to switch places with me if I'm nearer to the street performer when we are walking together... I'm that uncomfortable. So dilemma: do I let these modern-day ragamuffins' take me down, or do I myself dress up like a statue only to become the one thing I hate, OR do I just learn to live in harmony.... So many decisions.

It's the spice

Basking in another beautiful Slovakian spring day, enjoying the sounds of lawns being mowed and families communing in the outdoors. Thinking about Frank Herbert, Isaac Asimov, and this... the only thing missing here is my dose of Coast to Coast. Desperately yearning for the musings of George Noory and Ian Punnett.

Another collage in my series of collages, this one features Joseph Beuys and his Felt Television
(what I imagine to be a proper way to communicate with other forms of life)

Plan W

Off to Vienna tomorrow...
So sad to have missed my family in London, but when a volcano blows up I guess you can't do much. Except curse the volcano.... and maybe Iceland... but not Bjork.

For the love of Eyjafjallajoekull...

Although seemingly small, this dog has magical powers...
I'm supposed to leave on a plane to London town tomorrow! Lets keep our fingers crossed that my flight isn't canceled... and by the power of Francis (yes my 4 year old pugwawa Francis) let it be an un-bumpy ride...

TOYS!

Whilst in Prague I made a fine, fine purchase of a late 80's era Pentacon Six TI. Over the very long Easter weekend, I initiated this new little guy by casually shooting around Bratislava, and after one roll I nervously awaited the results. Happily the camera shoots wonderfully and to prove so, here is an example...
I am anxiously awaiting a large order of film I made a few weeks ago to arrive along with my lovely sister at the London book fair. I'm thinking this is a nice break from all of the video nonsense I've been up to lately....
Surprises with the Pentacon ahead!

So long Easter Monday

A collage of cheese and grass... to be used potentially in a later project

In a land where men run around and attempt to throw cold water on women, only to have themselves be rewarded with candy (?) I have spent most of Easter week (yes, they celebrate Easter for a week here,) cooped up in my flat. For many reasons, I have not felt the need to partake in this ancient, Slovakian tradition. However, I have taken the opportunity of my self-imposed isolation to re-work some things in my video projects and my book project as well. The time off has proved to incite some new ideas and possible changes that really have me excited.

On the brain:
Collage
Subtitles
More haikus
And audio, it is always audio that gets me in the end...

Gearing up for London in a week and a half, and preparing for a lecture I am giving next Tuesday on Matthew Barney to a group full of Slovaks... As if his work wasnt difficult enough to understand in English.
